Romania is poised to enhance its air defense network by becoming the first European nation to adopt Israel’s Iron Dome system.
Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu revealed the plan during an interview with national broadcaster TVR, indicating that the formal agreement to purchase the system is expected to be finalized by autumn.

The Iron Dome is a short and very-short-range air defense platform engineered by Israeli defense giant Rafael, which is owned by the Tel Aviv government.
The system is comprised of advanced Elta multi-mission radar to track airborne threats, Tamir interceptor missiles to destroy them, and mPrest’s battle management software for real-time coordination and decision-making.

It is designed to intercept a variety of threats — from drones and aircraft to rockets and artillery shells — within a 70-kilometer range and at altitudes of up to 10,000 meters.
This strategic purchase reflects Romania’s commitment to modernizing its defense infrastructure and addressing evolving regional security challenges.
