Poland has announced that it will host joint counter-drone training with Ukrainian specialists, further strengthening bilateral defense cooperation in the face of increasing Russian drone activity. The move follows a series of incursions by suspected Russian drones into Polish airspace, which have raised security concerns for the NATO member state.

According to the Polish Defense Ministry, advanced talks are underway between experts from both nations on broader collaboration in drone technologies and counter-drone measures. The ministry clarified that all training will be conducted on Polish soil, following remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that had implied potential Polish military involvement inside Ukraine pending Warsaw’s approval. Poland underscored that the program is strictly domestic, aiming to boost its own defenses after multiple drone incidents, including the September 10 downing of at least three hostile aerial objects.

As one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters since the 2022 invasion, Warsaw has repeatedly warned that unchecked Russian aggression risks pushing Europe closer to a direct conflict with Moscow. The growing threat has also prompted international concern. The United Nations Security Council recently convened to address the incursions, emphasizing fears that Russia’s drone operations could entangle NATO members in confrontation.

In parallel, Poland is moving ahead with modernizing its own drone program. A 200-million-zloty ($55 million) investment will establish a new Drone Center under the Air Force Institute of Technology. This center will be tasked with testing, developing, and deploying unmanned systems, complementing the joint training with Ukraine and reinforcing Poland’s commitment to advanced air defense capabilities.
