Kosovo has signed a defense procurement contract with AM General to acquire artillery-mounted High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HUMVEEs), marking a significant upgrade to the country’s mobile fire support capabilities. The agreement introduces the HUMVEE Hawkeye 105-millimeter mobile howitzer into service with the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), enhancing tactical mobility and rapid-deployment artillery operations.
The Hawkeye system integrates a 105mm soft-recoil cannon, derived from the M20 howitzer, which can be mounted or removed from the vehicle in approximately 90 seconds. Designed for flexibility in modern combat environments, the weapon offers 360-degree firing coverage, a firing rate of up to eight rounds per minute, and an effective range of up to 20 kilometers, depending on the ammunition employed.
In addition to the artillery vehicles, AM General will deliver a comprehensive support package that includes spare parts, sustainment services, operator and maintenance training, as well as medical evacuation vehicles, command-and-control trucks, and other mission-support platforms. These assets are intended to improve the artillery fleet’s readiness, survivability, and overall combat effectiveness.
Deliveries to the Kosovo Security Force are expected between 2026 and 2027, with AM General noting that this contract represents the first international sale of the HUMVEE Hawkeye system. The platform, first unveiled as a testbed in 2016, saw expanded evaluation through exercises before making its combat debut with Ukrainian forces in 2024, and was officially launched in October 2025 with an upgraded, lighter powertrain and more adaptable vehicle design.
