The United States has cleared a $1.04-billion foreign military sale to Australia that includes up to 200 AIM-120C and 200 AIM-120D Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs). This transaction, approved to bolster Australia’s air combat capabilities, enhances the country’s capacity to deter and counter aerial threats in a dynamic Indo-Pacific environment.
Such high-technology missiles provide long-range engagement ability, enabling Australia to upgrade its fighter fleet’s effectiveness and interoperability with US and allied air forces. The deal supports not just arms supply but also logistics, training, and maintenance for sustained operational use, reflecting the deepening defense ties between Canberra and Washington.
