The US Air Force has awarded BAE Systems a contract worth up to $145 million to develop and deliver an advanced infrared-guided counter-drone weapon based on the APKWS platform. This upgraded system combines infrared and laser guidance to improve targeting speed and flexibility. Developed under the FALCO program, it addresses urgent operational needs in the Middle East, where heavier drones pose growing risks. The system will be integrated on F-16 fighter jets and MH-60 helicopters, enhancing air defense capability. The contract runs through 2031, with initial deliveries expected by 2027.
