The CAESAR self-propelled howitzer represents a major shift in artillery design, prioritizing mobility, speed, and efficiency over heavy armor. Developed by France, the system combines a 155mm L/52 cannon with a truck-mounted platform, allowing rapid deployment and shoot-and-scoot operations. It can fire precision-guided munitions at ranges exceeding 40 km while quickly relocating to avoid counter-battery fire. Designed in the 1990s to bridge the gap between towed and tracked artillery, CAESAR offers lower operational costs and greater flexibility. It has been widely adopted by multiple countries and has proven its effectiveness in high-intensity conflicts, particularly in Ukraine. Despite limitations such as reduced armor protection and reliance on mobility for survivability, its adaptability and cost-efficiency make it a key asset in modern artillery strategies.
