Sweden-based Lumibird Photonics has received a contract from Saab to supply 57 VIDAR laser rangefinders for integration into the Royal Danish Navy’s frigate fleet. Scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026, the systems will be incorporated into Saab’s CEROS fire control systems.
The VIDAR rangefinders will provide enhanced real-time and high-frequency distance measurements, improving the accuracy of naval guns and missile systems when engaging fast-moving threats such as drones and surface vessels. The contract marks another significant milestone for Lumibird’s laser technology in NATO maritime defense operations.
The company anticipates potential for future demand from other defense users with similar operational requirements.
