Denmark has entered into a contract with Finnish defense company Patria for the acquisition of 129 Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) 6×6 platforms. These armored vehicles will begin arriving later this year, allowing Danish forces to begin training ahead of operational use by 2026.
This procurement comes after Denmark formally completed its accession to the multinational CAVS program by signing the final three foundational agreements: the Research and Development Agreement, the Framework Agreement, and the Life Cycle Management Agreement. These documents are required for full membership in the program, which already includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany. Denmark had previously begun the accession process in April by signing the technical arrangement.
The CAVS program, launched in 2020, is aimed at creating a standardized 6×6 vehicle platform for use by the Finnish Defense Forces and allied nations. Patria has received cumulative orders for nearly 1,000 CAVS vehicles from participating countries and has delivered over 200 units to date.
Denmark will employ the new vehicles across both its infantry and engineering corps, with intended configurations including command post, communications, ambulance, and electronic warfare variants. Although production takes place in Finland, the vehicles will include components sourced from Denmark.
Based on the Patria 6×6 platform, the CAVS vehicle emphasizes mobility, survivability, flexibility, and cost-efficiency. It meets STANAG Level 2 standards for ballistic and mine protection, making it well-suited for both troop transport and battlefield support missions.
