The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has launched a new command aimed at strengthening the supply and availability of spare and repair parts vital for sustaining military weapon systems. The newly created organization, DLA Weapons Support, will ensure that the U.S. armed forces continue receiving critical equipment and components needed to keep aircraft, armored vehicles, and other operational systems fully functional.

As part of this restructuring, DLA has merged two of its key branches—DLA Aviation, based in Richmond, Virginia, and DLA Land and Maritime, located in Columbus, Ohio. These facilities will now be brought under the single umbrella of DLA Weapons Support to streamline operations and improve efficiency in managing Class IX supplies, which cover essential repair parts used across the military’s wide inventory.

Although the two sites will remain open and operational, their signage and organizational branding will be updated to reflect the new integrated structure. This change is intended to harmonize the functions of the facilities while minimizing disruption to daily operations.

During the first year of the transition, leadership responsibilities will be shared between the two legacy commands to ensure a smooth shift to this consolidated framework. DLA has assured both employees and military customers that regular updates will be provided as the integration progresses. The move highlights the Defense Department’s continuing efforts to modernize logistics and sustainment in support of readiness.
