EDGE Group subsidiary Advanced Concepts has introduced a new digital munition safety solution, marking a shift away from traditional mechanical safeties toward software-defined arming technology. The system, known as the ESAD-50 electronic safety arming device, is designed to enhance reliability and control in modern precision munitions.

The ESAD-50 is engineered for munitions with calibers of 50 millimeters and above and features a compact form factor measuring 50 millimeters in diameter and 100 millimeters in height. Despite its small size, the device integrates advanced electronics intended to meet the stringent safety requirements of contemporary weapon systems.

At the core of the ESAD-50 is an onboard Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that continuously monitors acceleration, rotation, and flight dynamics. By building a detailed motion profile during launch and flight, the system ensures that arming occurs only after verified, safe conditions are met, reducing the risk of premature or unintended detonation.

The digital approach enables greater adaptability across different munition types, supporting the trend toward smart, networked weapons. By replacing mechanical components with software-controlled logic, Advanced Concepts aims to improve safety, flexibility, and integration for next-generation munitions.
