Israeli defense technology firm Elbit Systems has secured a $228 million contract to supply its Iron Fist active protection system (APS) for the US Army’s Bradley infantry fighting vehicle fleet, significantly strengthening vehicle survivability under the service’s ongoing modernization drive.

The agreement supports a long-term Bradley upgrade program led by General Dynamics, which is planned to run for up to eight years and could ultimately cover more than 1,200 Bradley vehicles. Under the current contract, Elbit will carry out Iron Fist-related work over a three-year period, expanding upon earlier modernization efforts.

The award builds on a previous contract announced in May 2024, which designated the M2A4E1 Bradley variant as the first recipient of the Iron Fist system. This latest deal marks the third order placed under the broader Bradley modernization initiative, underscoring the US Army’s growing emphasis on active protection technologies.

Iron Fist uses hard-kill interceptors to defeat incoming threats, forming a 360-degree defensive shield capable of neutralizing anti-tank guided missiles, rockets, loitering munitions, unmanned aerial systems, and kinetic energy rounds. The system is housed in a compact, low-profile turret, enabling effective operation in both urban and open battlefield environments. Beyond the US Army, Iron Fist is also being integrated onto NATO CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, reinforcing its role as a key survivability solution for allied armored forces.
