Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri, through its cybersecurity-focused subsidiary e-phors, has signed a contract with the Italian Navy to strengthen the cyber resilience of naval platforms. The initiative aims to enhance protection against cyber threats targeting onboard digital systems, reinforcing both platform survivability and mission security.
Under the program, Italian Navy vessels will be equipped with an integrated cyber monitoring and response solution designed to safeguard the Ship Management System (SMS) network. The system provides real-time threat detection and mitigation capabilities, enabling crews to respond rapidly to cyber incidents while maintaining operational continuity during missions.
E-phors’ technologies are specifically tailored to the digital architecture of military vessels, offering advanced tools that support tactical decision-making in contested cyber environments. The integration adds an additional defensive layer to naval platforms and forms part of the Italian Navy’s broader cyber modernization effort, which has already been implemented aboard Bergamini-class frigates.
The contract further underscores Fincantieri’s expanding collaboration with the Italian Navy as part of fleet modernization initiatives. Earlier this month, the company launched the Navy’s new hydro-oceanographic vessel Quirinale at its Riva Trigoso shipyard, a platform designed to support mapping, scientific research, and monitoring missions for the Italian Hydrographic Institute.
