Finnish defense manufacturers Sisu Auto and Valmet Automotive have entered into a teaming agreement to expand military vehicle production at Valmet’s Uusikaupunki facility, supporting Finland’s broader efforts to scale up domestic defense manufacturing. The partnership will see the luxury car production site adapted for defense vehicle assembly as demand for military platforms grows.
Located in southwestern Finland, the Uusikaupunki plant is traditionally known for producing premium and sports vehicles, along with advanced roof and kinematic systems. Over the years, the facility has manufactured vehicles for major automotive brands including Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Opel, Fisker, and Saab, giving it extensive experience in high-quality, complex manufacturing.
Under the agreement, the factory will focus on assembling Sisu Auto’s GT family of military vehicles, including the GTP 4×4 tactical vehicle and the GTT all-terrain platform. The GTP is a mine-resistant ambush-protected armored personnel carrier designed for operations in demanding environments, while the GTT is a modular vehicle capable of supporting transport, command and control, artillery roles, and medical evacuation missions.
The expansion is expected to significantly boost local employment, with production capacity of up to 300 vehicles projected to generate more than 300 jobs annually. The move follows a separate agreement signed earlier this month between Valmet Automotive and Finnish defense firm Patria, which will also use the Uusikaupunki site to manufacture Protected Mobility vehicles starting in 2026.
