General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) is expanding its footprint beyond unmanned aircraft manufacturing by entering the battle management and intelligence software domain through a new partnership with Qatar’s Barzan Holdings. The collaboration signals a strategic shift toward software-driven solutions that support modern, network-centric military operations.
Under a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), GA-ASI and Barzan Holdings will jointly develop advanced battle management software designed to enhance theater-level situational awareness. The agreement also brings GA-Intelligence, GA-ASI’s data and analytics subsidiary, into the partnership to support intelligence processing and decision-support capabilities.
According to the companies, the software will focus on rapid collection, correlation, and dissemination of intelligence from multiple sensor and data sources. These tools are intended to support commanders operating in complex, multi-domain environments, enabling faster and more informed decision-making across air, land, sea, space, and cyber domains.
The Qatar partnership aligns with a broader strategy pursued by GA-ASI over the past year, emphasizing sensors, software integration, and data fusion rather than standalone aircraft sales. As militaries seek persistent intelligence and command-and-control solutions, GA-ASI is positioning itself as a provider of integrated ISR and battle management ecosystems.
GA-ASI has also deepened cooperation with Saab, expanding an existing teaming agreement to explore airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) capabilities using the MQ-9B platform. The initiative focuses on integrating Saab’s sensors and mission systems onto unmanned aircraft, offering allied nations a cost-effective alternative to traditional crewed surveillance platforms.
In parallel, GA-ASI continues collaboration with the UAE’s EDGE Group, first announced in 2023, to develop region-specific unmanned and intelligence solutions, while maintaining its partnership with Hanwha Aerospace of South Korea to support maritime surveillance missions using the MQ-9B SeaGuardian.
