The German Armed Forces has awarded Flensburg Technology Systems (FTS) a framework contract to deliver up to 200 light airborne combat and support vehicles for its special forces. The agreement aims to enhance the mobility and combat readiness of Germany’s elite units operating in demanding terrains and high-risk missions.
Under the initial phase, the military will procure 40 combat and 14 support vehicles for a total of €30 million ($35 million), which includes specialized tool kits and documentation. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2028, while the seven-year framework agreement allows for additional vehicle orders as operational needs evolve.
The new vehicles, collectively named Tahr, fall within a 3.2-ton class and are optimized for airborne operations and special missions. Built on the proven Z-family all-terrain platform developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI)/ELTA, the 4×4 Tahr combines high off-road maneuverability, rapid acceleration, and superior stability under rugged field conditions.
The Tahr combat variant features seating for three personnel and supports heavy weapon configurations, including a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun (HMG), MG6 minigun, or grenade launcher. Its support version, with a two-seat design, is configured for logistics and material transport missions. Flensburg Technology Systems, a subsidiary of FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft and IAI/ELTA, will oversee production and integration, marking a key milestone in German-Israeli defense collaboration.
