GORE-TEX Labs has unveiled a next-generation PYRAD flame-retardant combat suit, engineered to keep modern soldiers cooler, safer, and more agile during missions in extreme heat. Designed for operations above 30°C (86°F), the combat ensemble blends lightweight construction with high breathability and stretchable fabrics. Unlike traditional flame-resistant uniforms, the PYRAD system offers fire protection without adding stiffness or contributing to heat stress during prolonged missions.

The suit adopts a mission-specific laminate structure, using lighter fabrics in low-risk zones and more durable materials over high-stress areas such as the elbows, shoulders, and knees. This hybrid approach optimizes mobility while ensuring consistent burn protection. Field evaluations with special operations forces and naval teams across the Middle East, Mediterranean, and Pacific regions confirmed that the new suit resists abrasion, maintains performance under plate carriers, and reduces soldier fatigue in demanding environments.

Beyond the new combat suit, GORE-TEX Labs recently introduced a lightweight all-weather jacket tailored for troops operating in cold, windy, and unpredictable climates. The jacket expands the company’s growing ecosystem of integrated soldier-protection solutions, focusing on operability, thermal balance, and long-term comfort. These developments highlight the company’s commitment to advancing next-generation military textiles.

The update comes amid a global push toward combat uniform modernization, as militaries seek better flame resistance, climate adaptability, and enhanced mobility for frontline personnel. In the Nordic region, the Nordic Combat Uniform (NCU) system rolled out in early 2025 incorporates layered flame-retardant materials for superior protection. Turkey’s Raff Military Textile has also developed multifunctional uniforms combining fire resistance, water repellence, and insect protection, ideal for tropical deployments. Meanwhile, private innovators like Crye Precision have launched the G3.5 Series, featuring flame-resistant, moisture-wicking garments engineered to maximize ventilation and mobility.
