KNDS France and Athens-based Metlen Energy & Metals have joined forces to manufacture the “Philoctetes” armored infantry fighting vehicle (VBCI) for the Hellenic Army, marking a new chapter in Franco-Greek defense cooperation. This agreement aligns with a 2022 initiative to overhaul Greece’s combat vehicle fleet using the proven 8×8 VBCI design developed for the French Army.

Under the deal, KNDS will transfer proprietary expertise on aluminum armor fabrication and VBCI Mark 2 hull construction, ensuring the Philoctetes meets stringent protection and mobility standards. This exchange of data and processes is intended to drive local manufacturing capability in Greece while advancing interoperability within the European defense landscape.

The collaboration aims not only to supply modern IFVs to the Greek armed forces but also to create an export-ready production base serving further European customers. It is a strategic move to bolster the Hellenic defense industrial base and deepen long-term ties between France and Greece.
