Hanwha Aerospace has officially introduced the Korea New Infantry Fighting Vehicle (K-NIFV), a next-generation tracked combat platform designed to counter modern battlefield threats such as drones and electronic warfare. The unveiling took place at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2025, marking another step in South Korea’s ongoing effort to modernize its armored forces.

The K-NIFV draws inspiration from Hanwha’s Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle, which was originally developed for international programs like Australia’s Land 400 Phase 3. However, the K-NIFV replaces the Redback’s manned turret with a fully unmanned weapon system, significantly enhancing crew survivability and internal space efficiency. This design allows the vehicle to carry up to eight infantry soldiers while maintaining superior protection and mobility.

Hanwha’s new modular turret integrates a 30mm automatic cannon as standard, with the option to upgrade to a 40mm cased-telescoped gun for greater firepower. The system also includes a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun and twin launch canisters for a domestically developed anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). This combination ensures high versatility against both ground and aerial targets, reflecting Hanwha’s push toward AI-enabled and network-centric warfare capabilities.

By combining advanced fire control, electronic countermeasures, and autonomous technologies, the K-NIFV positions Hanwha Aerospace as a leading innovator in the next generation of smart armored vehicles, ready to meet the operational demands of future battlefields.
