Leonardo is advancing military pilot training with the introduction of FITS4TOP (Future Integrated Training System for TOP Pilots), a next-generation simulation solution designed to merge live flying with immersive virtual environments. The system aims to transform how aircrews prepare for complex, multi-domain combat operations by combining real aircraft, simulators, and synthetic threats into a single training ecosystem.

At the heart of FITS4TOP is a mix of advanced simulation hardware, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and modern avionics, enabling expanded Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training. The system allows real aircraft to operate in shared missions alongside simulators and computer-generated forces, extending training across air, maritime, and land domains while maintaining a realistic operational tempo.

In operational use, pilots can conduct live flights while encountering digitally generated threats and dynamic scenarios, all supported by secure networks and high-performance computing. Trainees can also collaborate in real time with instructors and fellow pilots operating in simulators, gradually progressing through increasingly demanding mission profiles that replicate modern combat environments.

The system continuously collects and analyzes data from both simulated and live activities, feeding it to ground controllers who coordinate closely with aircrews during close-support and complex mission training. By integrating data-driven feedback and real-time coordination, FITS4TOP is intended to deliver more adaptive, efficient, and realistic pilot training outcomes.
