Northrop Grumman and Lithuania have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand co-production of 35mm medium-caliber ammunition. Building on an earlier agreement from September 2024, the new deal was formalized during the NATO Industry Summit in The Hague.
Under the arrangement, Northrop Grumman and Norwegian defense firm Nammo will provide Lithuania’s state-owned Giraitė Armaments Plant with the necessary technology and support to begin manufacturing the ammunition locally. The initiative is expected to strengthen Lithuania’s defense capabilities while enhancing its role in international supply chains.
This development aligns with Lithuania’s broader defense strategy, which includes increasing annual defense spending to 5–6% of GDP between 2026 and 2030, aiming to fund major acquisitions like tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. The expanded cooperation also contributes to greater strategic autonomy and strengthens ties with NATO allies, while supporting defense supply efforts in the region, including Ukraine.
