Mack Defense has been awarded a contract to build up to 450 M917A3 Heavy Dump Trucks (HDTs) for the US Army, a deal valued at up to $221.8 million. The acquisition aims to bolster the service’s fleet across its active duty, reserve, and National Guard units, ensuring the availability of modern, high-capacity construction vehicles.
Production will be carried out at Mack’s Experience Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a facility that has specialized in HDT assembly since 2021 following a $6.5 million upgrade. Additional manufacturing will take place at the company’s Lehigh Valley Operations plant in Macungie, Pennsylvania, further supporting delivery capacity.
Once fielded, the M917A3 trucks will serve a range of operational and logistical roles, including the construction and maintenance of airfields, roads, and landing strips, as well as the upkeep of supply facilities and motor pools. The vehicles will also be deployed in disaster relief operations, providing critical support in severe weather and emergency conditions.
This procurement marks a continuation of the Army’s modernization efforts to equip engineering and logistics units with reliable heavy-duty platforms capable of handling demanding military and humanitarian tasks.
