The NATO Support and Procurement Agency has initiated procurement of 120mm tank ammunition from Rheinmetall under a 2025 framework agreement valued at approximately €200 million. The rounds will replenish stocks used by NATO main battle tanks. Through the Basic Contractual Instrument (BCI), participating nations can procure standardized 120mm smoothbore ammunition under predefined technical and contractual terms. Rheinmetall’s 120mm gun system, operational since 1980, equips platforms such as the Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams. The company manufactures a full spectrum of rounds, including armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS), high-explosive multi-purpose (HE-MP), and training variants matched ballistically to combat rounds.
