The US military is taking proactive steps to monitor the mental sharpness of its personnel through a new initiative called the Cognitive Monitoring Program. This program is structured to assess how service members mentally perform across their careers and respond to different environments and pressures.
A specialized digital platform measures ten vital cognitive skills, including focus, reasoning, and memory. It also captures self-reported data on mood, trauma, and sleep disorders to provide a comprehensive profile. The intention is to build a reliable cognitive profile at the beginning of one’s service and update it periodically. These insights allow for earlier medical interventions and ensure soldiers remain mentally fit for duty.
