Nigeria has officially launched its first fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles for military use, local reports confirmed. The newly introduced fleet includes 20 buses, 50 pickup trucks, and 14 executive vehicles, all unveiled at the Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja.
This move marks a key milestone in Nigeria’s national clean energy transition plan, which aims to reduce reliance on petrol-based transport systems. CNG, known for its reduced tailpipe emissions, offers fuel economy on par with traditional gasoline engines and is viable across all vehicle segments — from compact cars to heavy-duty trucks. The fuel is produced by compressing natural gas to a significantly smaller volume, making it easier to store and transport.
