The Pentagon’s Joint Interagency Task Force 401 has awarded Perennial Autonomy a $5.2-million contract to supply kinetic counter-drone systems as part of ongoing efforts to counter the rapid proliferation of small unmanned aerial systems. The contract centers on the Bumblebee V2, a first-person-view multi-rotor drone designed to physically intercept hostile sUAS with minimal collateral damage. The system is fully compliant with National Defense Authorization Act requirements and is positioned as a low-cost, rapidly deployable solution for frontline units. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in March, coinciding with an operational assessment by the US Army’s Global Response Force. The evaluation will support the newly established Lieutenant General Gavin Joint Innovation Outpost, created in late January 2026 to accelerate the transition of advanced technologies into operational use. The facility focuses on enhancing soldier survivability and combat effectiveness through rapid experimentation and fielding. JIATF-401 was established in August 2025 to synchronize counter-drone development and procurement across the Department of Defense, engaging both traditional and non-traditional defense suppliers. Earlier acquisitions include DroneHunter F700 interceptors from Fortem Technologies under the Replicator 2 initiative. In parallel, the task force has emphasized resilience and protection measures, issuing guidance on infrastructure hardening, low-cost defensive techniques, and personnel training.
