Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) has announced a strategic collaboration with BAE Systems to establish a new 155mm artillery ammunition production plant in Poland. The agreement underscores Warsaw’s ambition to expand its domestic defense manufacturing base and secure a steady supply of critical munitions.

As part of the initiative, BAE Systems will transfer advanced production technologies and provide technical expertise to PGZ, ensuring the facility is equipped with the latest manufacturing methods. Construction of the site is expected to begin this year, with completion targeted for 2027 or 2028.

The new plant will adopt automated production systems, a method that BAE claims has increased 155mm shell output sixteen-fold at its UK facilities. Once operational, the facility will produce NATO-compliant shells compatible with standard charges, fuzes, and primers.

With a planned annual output of up to 180,000 rounds, the plant will directly support Poland’s artillery forces, particularly its K9 and Krab self-propelled howitzers. The project not only enhances national defense readiness but also reduces reliance on foreign suppliers, reinforcing Poland’s long-term defense sustainability.
