In a major boost to its air defense posture, Poland has finalized a nearly $2 billion agreement with the United States to enhance the capabilities of its Patriot missile defense systems. The deal underscores Poland’s critical strategic position along NATO’s eastern front, amid growing security tensions driven by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The new contract includes Raytheon-supplied equipment, comprehensive training, and ongoing logistics support for existing and upcoming Patriot platforms. This builds on Poland’s earlier Phase I acquisition of Patriot batteries under the Wisła program, which introduced the PAC-3 MSE missiles and cutting-edge Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS).
With this upgrade, Warsaw signals its commitment to a layered national defense infrastructure capable of defending against aircraft, drones, and ballistic missile threats. The expanded system supports NATO’s interoperability goals by linking Poland’s air defense assets with allied command structures.
