Polish company Bumech has signed a cooperation agreement with South Africa’s OTT Technologies to localize the production of OTT armored vehicles in Poland. The deal represents Bumech’s entry into the defense sector, with responsibilities spanning manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of the vehicles for European customers.
The partnership initially covers three key OTT platforms: the PUMA, LM, and Bulldog armored vehicles. Both companies have also agreed in principle to integrate anti-drone protection technologies into these platforms, addressing one of the most pressing threats in modern conflict. Assembly will begin with components supplied directly by OTT before progressively shifting toward European-sourced parts.
Over time, the partners intend to achieve full licensed production, with at least 70 percent of vehicle components manufactured within the European Union. This localization effort will also involve redesigning technical elements such as drivetrains and engines to comply with EU emissions and regulatory standards. Bumech will finance the cooperation, including production startup costs and sales support, ensuring the program’s long-term viability.
The initial phase of the agreement is scheduled to run through December 31, 2027, with provisions for extension if performance thresholds are met. Demand prospects appear strong, as Poland’s military alone is expected to require around 3,000 armored vehicles, while additional demand from border guard and police forces could further expand the potential market.
