QinetiQ has showcased Australia’s first scalable prototype of a high-power laser optical chain, developed in partnership with the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG). Awarded a contract in 2023, the UK-based company is working on a prototype defensive laser system with broad deployment potential. The successful demonstration marks a step forward in developing sovereign directed energy capabilities to counter modern and emerging uncrewed aerial threats.
