Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has officially introduced the Iron Beam 450 at the DSEI 2025 exhibition, showcasing its most powerful laser-based air defense platform to date. The unveiling highlights Rafael’s efforts to expand the effectiveness of directed-energy weapons as a critical part of modern air defense.
According to the company, the Iron Beam 450 features a larger aperture design that enables faster engagement speeds, extended operational range, and significantly improved cost efficiency compared to earlier versions. The system is designed to counter a wide variety of aerial threats with precision and reduced logistical burden, offering a major step forward in Israel’s laser defense technology.
The designation “450” is drawn from the system’s 450-millimeter aperture, which represents a significant increase over previous Iron Beam models while retaining a compact overall footprint. At the exhibition, Rafael displayed the new platform alongside the Iron Beam-M and Lite Beam variants, emphasizing its role as the flagship of the product family. A unique mounting gimbal further distinguishes the Iron Beam 450 from earlier systems, underscoring Rafael’s focus on innovation in directed-energy defense.
