Rheinmetall has secured infantry ammunition contracts from Estonia and Lithuania totaling 33 million euros ($38 million). Estonia’s agreement includes the supply of hand grenades, with splinter grenades scheduled for delivery in 2026 and 2027, and offensive grenades between 2026 and 2029, valued at around 17 million euros ($19 million). Lithuania’s contract, worth 16 million euros ($18 million), covers tens of thousands of 40×46mm high-explosive fragmentation cartridges, to be delivered in 2026 and 2027.

The company manufactures a complete range of 40mm ammunition and grenade launcher systems for NATO nations, producing low-, medium-, and high-velocity rounds. Low-velocity 40×46mm rounds offer a 76 meters-per-second muzzle velocity and a range of 400 meters, while the medium-velocity variant achieves 100 meters per second with a range of up to 900 meters. Rheinmetall also produces 40×53mm high-velocity rounds for automatic launchers, reaching 130 meters per second and up to 2,000 meters in range.

Both Estonia and Lithuania are boosting defense capabilities amid ongoing tensions with Russia. Estonia plans to increase military spending to at least 5 percent of GDP from next year, while Lithuania aims to allocate up to 6 percent of GDP for defense annually between 2026 and 2030.
