Saab has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hanwha Aerospace to evaluate the integration of the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) into the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system. The collaboration aims to enhance the system’s lethality by combining the extended reach and firepower of rocket artillery with the precision strike capabilities of glide bombs.

The Chunmoo, developed by South Korea, has proven itself as a versatile and exportable platform, now in service with Poland, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The system is mounted on an 8×8 Hanwha truck and supports two modular launch pods, enabling a wide range of munitions. Each pod can house 20 unguided 130mm rockets with a 36-kilometer range, six 227mm or 239mm rockets with ranges up to 80 kilometers, or a single 290mm tactical ballistic missile capable of striking targets up to 290 kilometers away.

On the other hand, the GLSDB extends the engagement envelope to 150 kilometers by combining a GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb with the motor of an M26 rocket. Originally designed for air launch, this adaptation offers ground forces a precision-guided strike option well beyond traditional rocket artillery ranges. By pairing Chunmoo’s flexibility with GLSDB’s precision, the integration promises to deliver a powerful long-range strike solution suitable for modern battlefield requirements.
