The Republic of Korea Air Force has officially introduced an advanced AI-powered tactical development and flight simulation system, marking a first in the nation’s defense sector. The platform incorporates reinforcement learning (RL), a cutting-edge AI method that enables machines to improve their performance over time.
With reinforcement learning, the simulator refines its responses by experimenting with different tactics, gaining “rewards” when its actions succeed, and gradually optimizing its decisions to achieve the desired outcomes. This self-learning ability reduces the need for constant human input while ensuring the system adapts to complex scenarios.
The solution was developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) as part of efforts to enhance military training and operational preparedness. The simulator features a virtual aircraft environment enriched with real-world tactical data, ensuring realistic conditions for experimentation.
By integrating AI into its training infrastructure, the South Korean Air Force gains a more flexible and efficient tool to develop and test strategies, paving the way for next-generation military preparedness without extensive live exercises.
