Sweden has signed a pivotal agreement with Thales to acquire the Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact radar (GM200 MM/C), part of a $93 million contract aimed at modernizing the country’s air and surface surveillance framework. Scheduled for delivery beginning in 2026, this radar system will replace Sweden’s aging PS-871 platforms.
The GM200 MM/C offers medium-range coverage, multi-role tasking, and advanced threat detection features designed to support air defense, airspace control, and maritime surveillance. It is highly mobile and suited for rapid deployment, giving the Swedish Armed Forces the ability to respond to aerial or surface threats with improved speed and accuracy.
This procurement strengthens Sweden’s national defense posture, providing enhanced situational awareness and supporting concerted operations within both Nordic and allied defense architectures.
