Cyprus-based Theon International has signed a major contract with the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) to supply its next-generation IRIS-C thermal clip-on systems to Germany and Belgium. The initial deal is worth about 50 million euros ($58.7 million), with an optional extension that could raise the value to 150 million euros ($176 million).
Deliveries are expected between 2026 and 2027, with German firm Andres Industries partnering on the program. Andres will provide maintenance and support, ensuring long-term operational availability of the systems. The collaboration highlights the growing demand in Europe for advanced soldier systems as defense forces adapt to modern battlefield requirements.
The IRIS-C is designed as a thermal clip-on that enhances existing optical sights, delivering advanced thermal imaging to boost detection, recognition, and tracking capabilities in low-visibility environments. It is compatible with both Theon-manufactured and third-party night vision goggles, allowing flexible integration across different platforms.
Further boosting its utility, the system can be connected to Theon’s Smart Battery Pack or Smart Gateway. This integration enables augmented reality features such as friend-or-foe identification, mission data overlays, and target recognition, as well as interoperability with existing Battle Management Systems. Analysts say the contract positions Theon as a key supplier of cutting-edge soldier technologies in Europe.
