thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has signed a teaming agreement with VEM Technologies to jointly produce heavyweight torpedoes in India. The agreement represents the next stage of cooperation between the two companies following a memorandum of understanding signed in 2025. Initially, the partnership will support the production of heavyweight torpedoes for the submarine fleet operated by the Indian Navy. Technology transfer and software licensing will be provided by Atlas Elektronik, which will enable local manufacturing at VEM’s facilities in India. Reports indicate that approximately 500 torpedoes could be produced annually under the partnership. Over time, the cooperation may expand further and could lead to the creation of a joint venture between the two companies. Such a venture would supply torpedoes to the Indian defense market while also exploring export opportunities.
