The Turkish Army has officially inducted its first domestically developed self-propelled howitzer, marking a major milestone in Turkey’s drive for artillery self-reliance and defense industrial independence. The achievement highlights Ankara’s growing capability to design, integrate, and produce advanced ground combat systems within its national defense ecosystem.

The newly fielded T-155 TTA combines MKE’s 155mm Panter howitzer with a BMC 8×8 wheeled chassis, integrating Aselsan’s advanced fire control system. System integration and final assembly were completed by the 2nd Main Maintenance Factory Directorate under the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, ensuring full compliance with military standards.

The project was initially commissioned in 2020 by the General Directorate of Military Factories and awarded to ASFAT, a key Turkish defense firm. The first live-fire test took place in December 2022, confirming the weapon’s operational readiness and precision strike capability.

Following an extensive three-year qualification phase, the prototype underwent rigorous mobility and firing evaluations, covering over 20,000 kilometers across various terrains and firing around 350 rounds. With its induction, the T-155 TTA is expected to enhance Turkey’s field artillery mobility, responsiveness, and combat endurance, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to a fully indigenous defense supply chain.
