The United Kingdom and Australia have launched a joint initiative to advance the development of next-generation components for low-cost weapon systems. The partnership merges the UK’s Modular Weapons Testbed program with Australia’s SHARKTOOTH initiative, both of which emphasize the need for flexible and rapidly reconfigurable armaments.
Central to the collaboration is the “plug-and-launch” modular technology at the heart of SHARKTOOTH, a project focused on building small missiles that can integrate sensors, warheads, guidance systems, and propulsion units interchangeably. This approach enables defense forces to swiftly adapt weapons for diverse mission requirements, driving down costs and enhancing responsiveness in rapidly changing combat environments.
Through shared research, testing, and manufacturing processes, the UK and Australia aim to set new benchmarks for allied interoperability. The project also seeks to accelerate fielding timelines and ensure readiness to counter emergent threats with tailored solutions.
