The UK Ministry of Defence has signed a two-year agreement with Cubic Defence UK to implement its cutting-edge Instrumented Live Training Area Weapons Effects System (ILT-A).
This next-generation training platform aims to deliver realistic, digitally enhanced training environments that improve soldiers’ combat skills and mission readiness.

The ILT-A replaces the legacy Area Weapons Effects Simulation initiative and expands Cubic’s longstanding relationship with the UK government.
The agreement covers training solutions for both individual soldiers and larger units, adaptable to various terrains and operational scenarios.

ILT-A leverages advanced technologies such as laser simulation, area-effect mechanisms, live-fire integration, and drone support to emulate complex, multi-domain conflict environments.
It also captures detailed performance data for post-exercise analysis and review.
The system is fully integrated with SCOPIC2 — Cubic’s virtual overlay platform — which introduces simulated surveillance, target tracking, air and artillery strikes, and enables seamless joint force training with allied militaries.

This contract aligns with the UK’s broader defense modernization strategy.
Key developments include the recent infrastructure upgrade initiative at Scotland’s Faslane base to reinforce the nuclear deterrent and the collaboration between GM Defense and NP Aerospace to present the Infantry Squad Vehicle for the Army’s Light Mobility Vehicle program.
In a significant policy shift, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced plans to raise defense spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027 — the most substantial commitment to defense investment in decades.
