Ukraine has reportedly introduced a compact directed-energy system called “Sunray” to counter hostile drones. Unlike conventional laser weapons, the system emits no visible beam, making it difficult to detect during operation. The device resembles a telescope supported by camera units for targeting and tracking. During field testing, it reportedly ignited a drone from several hundred yards away within seconds. The system offers a lower-cost alternative to missile interceptors, particularly useful against frequent drone incursions. By delivering concentrated energy to critical drone components, Sunray provides a reusable and efficient defensive tool in contested airspace.
