The US State Department has approved a potential $90.5-million sale of M1085A2 and M1078A2 Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTVs) to Lebanon under the Foreign Military Sales program. The package covers 5-ton and 2.5-ton MTV variants without winches, along with spare parts, technical manuals, personnel training, and full logistics support. Oshkosh Defense has been identified as the primary contractor.
The MTV platforms are designed to transport personnel and equipment over demanding environments, offering improved payload capacity, off-road performance, and modular configurations. Their durability and mobility support a broad mission set ranging from combat logistics to tactical reinforcement and humanitarian transport, making the vehicles a critical asset for modern armed forces.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency noted that the deal would significantly reinforce the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) by enhancing troop mobility, strengthening border security, and improving responsiveness to perimeter threats. The agency added that the sale does not pose an adverse impact on regional military balance and will not affect US defense readiness.
Over the years, Washington has delivered multiple support initiatives to Lebanon, having facilitated more than $1.9 billion in government-to-government defense sales and invested over $3 billion since 2006 to strengthen the LAF’s role as a stabilizing institution. The US has also contributed nearly $23 million for the International Military Education and Training (IMET) effort, enabling more than 6,000 LAF servicemembers to train in the US since 1970.
