The U.S. Navy has awarded Absher Construction Company a $22.8 million contract to construct an Armored Fighting Vehicle (AFV) support facility at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor in Washington State. The project will include five maintenance service bays, a dedicated paint booth, and a blast booth. An additional $1 million will be provided later to cover furnishings, equipment, and security enhancements.
The development will begin with site preparation, which involves clearing and filling forested areas, installing stormwater management systems, and laying the groundwork for construction. The facility itself will be a custom pre-engineered metal structure designed to accommodate specialized AFV maintenance operations.
Once complete, the center will house administrative offices, multiple service bays, and a large paved reception area for vehicles. The Navy expects it to significantly boost readiness at the installation by providing dedicated support for armored platforms used in base security.
Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor hosts the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Bangor (MCSFBn), the unit charged with safeguarding the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific. The battalion relies on Humvees, MRAPs, light armored vehicles, and other platforms to protect the Navy’s ballistic missile submarine fleet. Construction is set for completion in October 2027 under the supervision of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command.
