The US Navy is expanding its inventory of Hammerhead encapsulated effector systems under contracts with General Dynamics Mission Systems. Designed for anti-submarine warfare, the system autonomously detects and engages enemy submarines using a moored mine that launches a Mk 54 torpedo. Integration with unmanned underwater vehicles like Orca UUV is being explored to enhance deployment flexibility.
