Virginia-based defense firm V2X has introduced a new generation of mission-focused battlefield solutions for the U.S. Army, with its flagship innovation being the Tempest, a rapid-response mobile fires platform designed for agility, precision, and survivability. The new system represents a major step in V2X’s efforts to equip U.S. forces with adaptive technologies capable of countering fast-evolving aerial threats.

The Tempest platform features a modular combat vehicle design equipped with dual missile launchers capable of deploying Longbow missiles. These armaments are optimized to intercept and destroy short- and medium-range unmanned aerial systems (UAS), even in adverse weather conditions where traditional air defenses may struggle. Its modular architecture allows for easy reconfiguration and integration of additional weapon systems based on mission needs.

What sets the Tempest apart is its “shoot-and-scoot” capability — a built-in autonomous system that enables the vehicle to fire and instantly reposition to a new location after engagement. This rapid movement reduces vulnerability to enemy counterbattery fire and significantly improves crew survivability.

By combining mobility, precision, and stealth, V2X’s Tempest offers the U.S. Army a new edge in counter-drone and tactical support operations, providing a resilient and adaptive solution for the complex, high-tempo battlefields of the future.
