Montenegro has taken delivery of the first 31 Iveco Eurocargo logistics vehicles from Italy, representing the initial phase of a defense agreement aimed at upgrading the country’s military transportation capabilities. The delivery includes Eurocargo MLL150 and M170 variants designed to support the movement of troops and military materiel over off-road terrain. The wider agreement between Podgorica and Rome covers as many as 86 platforms with a total value of nearly 20 million euros ($23.1 million). The procurement is being financed through a loan obtained from a local Montenegrin bank. The remaining 55 vehicles are expected to arrive by the end of the year at the Milovan Šaranović barracks in Danilovgrad. These vehicles will include additional troop transport trucks as well as specialized tankers intended to carry water and fuel. The overall procurement package also provides spare parts, diagnostic equipment, sustainment training, and a two-year warranty. The delivery forms part of the Montenegrin Ground Army’s continuing effort to replace its aging heavy-truck fleet. Many of the vehicles currently in service were inherited from the Yugoslav People’s Army and have remained operational for more than three decades. The replacement program is intended not only to strengthen military logistics but also to improve the country’s ability to respond to emergencies. Defense officials said the modernized vehicle fleet will contribute to civil protection operations during crisis situations. Iveco’s Eurocargo is available with either 4×4 or 4×2 drivetrains, providing flexibility for different operational environments and mission requirements. Depending on its configuration, the truck can have a maximum weight of up to 18 tonnes (39,683 pounds). An electronically controlled air-suspension system helps maintain appropriate ground clearance while transporting different types of cargo. The vehicle can be equipped with either Tector 5 or Tector 7 diesel engines, producing between 160 and 320 horsepower. With these powertrains, the Eurocargo can reach a maximum speed of 110 kilometers (68 miles) per hour.
