Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced a $6-billion CAD ($4.2 billion USD) partnership with Australia to co-develop an Arctic surveillance radar system. The announcement was made in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut, during Carney’s first official trip as prime minister. He emphasized Canada’s need to increase its defense role amid shifting US global priorities.
