At this year’s Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France, Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT announced plans to deepen their collaboration in the field of ground-based air defence. Building on their jointly developed, combat-proven systems that are already in production and available for rapid deployment, the companies aim to offer next-generation solutions capable of countering evolving threats. These advanced air defence systems are software-defined and leverage cutting-edge technologies to remain effective against both current and emerging challenges.
Modern air attack threats have grown far more complex compared to previous years. Once focused primarily on aircraft and helicopters, today’s air defence must contend with a wider spectrum of dangers, including cruise missiles, supersonic and hypersonic weapons, drones, and especially ballistic missiles, which present unique defensive challenges. Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT are working to address these evolving threats by enhancing the synergy between their weapon systems.
The partnership between Diehl Defence and HENSOLDT has a long-standing history, particularly with the IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defence system, which integrates Airbus’s IBMS-FC battle management software and HENSOLDT’s advanced radar technologies, now in serial production and operational use.
Looking ahead, the companies have identified key areas for further collaboration, including AI-driven target identification in the TRML-4D fire-control radar, multi-sensor data fusion, AI-enabled situational awareness, advanced mission planning algorithms, and enhanced simulation techniques to support the future evolution of IRIS-T SLM.
