Kongsberg has secured a contract worth 1.1 billion Norwegian kroner, approximately $118 million, from General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada to supply Protector RS4 remote weapon systems for the Canadian Army’s Armoured Combat Support Vehicle fleet.The RS4 belongs to Kongsberg’s Protector family of remotely operated weapon stations and is designed to improve crew protection, targeting accuracy, and battlefield awareness. The latest agreement builds on an earlier 500-million-kroner contract awarded in 2020 as part of Canada’s ACSV program.The original ACSV requirement covered 360 vehicles before being expanded by another 190 platforms. Kongsberg has not yet provided details on the number of Protector RS4 systems included in the latest order or the expected delivery timeline.The Protector RS4 is designed to accommodate a range of weapon configurations, including small- and medium-caliber weapons, coaxial systems, and anti-tank guided missiles. Its stabilized architecture allows operators to maintain target tracking while the vehicle is moving.The system uses a 2+2-axis Detached Line of Sight configuration, separating the sighting line from the weapon movement. This arrangement can support continuous target tracking and improve firing accuracy under dynamic operating conditions.The platform-independent design allows the RS4 to be integrated with different land and maritime vehicles, supporting both mobile and fixed missions. Its electro-optical and camera systems are also designed to provide surveillance and targeting capabilities during both daytime and nighttime operations.Depending on its configuration, the RS4 weighs between 135 and 190 kilograms and has a height of approximately 505 to 765 millimeters, excluding weapons and ammunition.
