The US Army has placed an order for 86 M917A3 Heavy Dump Trucks from Mack Defense to strengthen its tactical logistics and engineering operations. The acquisition expands the Army’s fleet of modernized construction and transport vehicles used for diverse missions, including base development, road construction, and battlefield recovery.
The M917A3, based on Mack’s Granite commercial platform, has been adapted to military requirements with a reinforced chassis, armored cab, all-wheel drive, and upgraded suspension. Each vehicle can haul up to 27 tons of material, allowing efficient operations across rugged environments and combat zones.
This latest procurement is part of the Army’s broader M917A3 Heavy Dump Truck program aimed at replacing older M917 models that have served for several decades. Mack Defense confirmed that production will take place within its US-based facilities, leveraging domestic suppliers to maintain steady delivery timelines and logistical support.
The initiative aligns with the US Army’s ongoing modernization push to improve mobility, reliability, and logistical efficiency. By introducing advanced vehicles with better protection, payload capacity, and off-road performance, the service continues to optimize battlefield readiness. Similar efforts are underway across other branches, including the Marine Corps’ logistics vehicle upgrades and the development of hybrid-electric tactical trucks for future operations.
