Defense technology innovator Anduril Industries has announced the acquisition of American Infrared Solutions (AIRS) to strengthen its position in the infrared sensor market. The move aims to expand Anduril’s thermal imaging and sensor portfolio, supporting defense, aerospace, and industrial applications with cooled infrared camera systems.
Following the acquisition, AIRS’ advanced infrared cameras and components will be integrated into Anduril’s suite of mission systems, enhancing its in-house ability to deliver high-sensitivity thermal imaging solutions across air, land, sea, and space platforms. The integration aligns with Anduril’s strategy to combine AI, autonomy software, and cutting-edge hardware to support multi-domain defense operations.
AIRS will continue to operate from its New Hampshire headquarters, maintaining its role as a key supplier of cooled infrared cameras to both defense and commercial clients. The acquisition gives Anduril greater control over a critical component in its sensor supply chain, which the company has relied on for years.
The deal underscores a growing trend in defense modernization, where militaries increasingly rely on infrared and multispectral imaging systems to detect and track threats in challenging environments. Such technologies are vital for platforms like the US Army’s Gray Eagle and MQ-9 Reaper drones, as well as US Navy targeting pods and counter-drone systems from Leonardo DRS and Teledyne FLIR, ensuring precise surveillance and engagement capabilities across all domains.
